Stari Bar
Why visit: One of the most atmospheric historical complexes in Montenegro — the ruins of an ancient city at the foot of Mount Rumija. Here, centuries intertwine: fortress walls, churches, palaces, and narrow streets tell the story of Bar from the Middle Ages to the Ottoman period. Panoramic views of the mountains, the town, and surrounding olive groves make the walk especially impressive.
Tip: It’s best to visit in the morning or closer to sunset, when it’s cooler and there are fewer tourists. Wear comfortable shoes — the area is large, with climbs and stone paving. After your visit, stop by Old Bar for a coffee or pomegranate juice — a local classic.
